I ran a search over at Auto Blog and there is no such news so I think Sekidou is right and the Toyota folk are starting to take note of the Equator. A much better looking truck then the Frontier or Taco IMO.

I read somewhere it was a trade - Suzuki builds small Nissan for sale in England and Nissan builds Equator for Suzuki in US - longevity probably depends on that contract as much as sales.

Even if Suzuki is only "making" <2000 Equators per year, it still helps Nissan out. When you look at production costs, you take your fixed costs and divide that among the number of units produced - then add in the variable cost per unit.

So, using made-up round numbers, if it costs $100,000,000 per year to operate the Frontier plant, and they made 48,000 equators, that's a fixed-cost of $2,083 per truck, regardless of how much the truck parts cost to build and assemble. By adding 2,000 Equators into the mix, that would bring the fixed cost of each truck down to an even $2,000. Keeping the sale price of each truck the same, now they get to put another almost-$4m in their pocket.

Now Suzuki gets to do the same in whatever plant they build the cars for Nissan and it's a win-win situation for the corporations. Meanwhile, us outsiders just see it like "gee, they only sold 1,979 of those - it's doomed." That's aside from the benefit that Suzuki is the number one builder/seller in Japan. (I think Suzuki is building small cars for Nissan in Japan, not the UK, but I could be off) and Nissan can benefit from that.
