Question Ordering from Suzuki vs. buying off the lot

My local dealer tells me there isn't an Equator configured like I want (Ext. cab, V6 Sport) within a 1000 mile radius so I'm looking at ordering one. Does any one here have experience with that and if so, how long did it take to arrive? The dealer told me about six weeks but I think that's a pretty standard answer. Thanks.

It all depends on what they have running on the line at the time you order. I ordered a Frontier in 2000 that I got in a little over a week but it took over 4 months to get my 04 Nissan Titan that I ordered. Timing, Timing, Timing.

I'm hoping it isn't anywhere near four months but I'll find out next week or the one after. I'm guessing that the haggling and deciding on the price occurs before they order it? I've done lots of reading on a few sites about how to deal with salesmen and I'm actually looking forward to it.

It's not that bad if you aren't afraid to walk away. As soon as you make an idle threat they have you. LOL

Also, dealing by Email between a couple of different dealerships also works. I bought my 1ton and never stepped on the lot until time to sign the papers.

I can also attest to email being a great resource. I've done all the price negotiating with the Suzuki salesman through email and it's been great. I told him I work in finance (I only vaguely do) and wanted all the numbers to crunch myself. He complied and I have all the Doc fees, plate fees, title fees, etc. all in writing (email) ahead of time. The only thing I needed to go in for was test-driving and appraising my trade, though I probably won't trade the car and will sell private party later.

I got an e-mail today from the one dealership in Vancouver and they are offering employee pricing ($2000 under invoice) until the end of April. Problem is, they have four trucks and none of them are even close to what I'm looking for. Three, 4 cylinders and the one V6 is an RMZ-4.

Patience is a virtue, right?

I bought my truck about 2 weeks ago and when i was looking i couldn't find anything around. I wanted a crew cab rmz in red or blue well i got the truck i wanted but in black. The guy that said if you say your gonna walk out don't say it just thank the guy for there time and tell them you will shop else where. they will persuade you to stay and talk but say thats ok you already made your deal and it isn't mine. They will call you either that day or the next and make your deal or atleast come close. I also make a few calls to banks for financing what is a good rate. You should have an idea what your credit score is. They will always try and stick you with a higher rate if they can. they make more money this way. The finance guy is also trying to get you just not the salesman. good luck to you

Well, after talking to two different dealers who both told me it's difficult to actually order an Equator (and maybe other Suzuki vehicles too) and that Suzuki just kind of sends what they want based on geography I decided to go with a Nissan Frontier. Even then I had to get a 4WD because the closest RWD to me was 700 miles away and the shipping would have been prohibitive. But I was able to get it in the color I wanted and configured like I wanted except for the 4WD thing. Probably the best part of the whole deal was I got it for $550 under invoice. I'm pretty sure because it was the last few days of the month the dealer was willing to go so low to get my business.

So, I'll still check in here occasionally but I didn't get a Suzuki because there weren't any to be got. :-(

Glad you were able to get the Frontier for a good deal, but too bad it couldn't have been the Equator you were trying for. I know what you mean about them being so hard to find. The dealer near me still has none in inventory since the first of the year. Not sure why our numbers are still so small, but I read recently that Frontier sales are up considerably. Hopefully Suzuki is working on this.

Show us a pic of your new ride when you can and how you're liking it.
