I've pulled the transmission dipstick (actually a cable) out to check the fluid level...have to remove a 10mm screw to do it. It says hot on one side and cold on the other.
If checking it "hot", is the engine supposed to be running, and the trans in drive, or shut off hot, running hot, etc...? Anyone know? There's no reference in the manual for checking the fluid level.

Tailgunner,
I have the 4cyl, auto, and it looks like the same cable set-up you have with the V6. Been checking mine hot, on level surface, engine running, in Park. Not sure if this is right either. Wonder why this is left out of the owners manual? Good catch! |

When I bought my Titan they said the new transmissions didn't need to be checked and if you did you were suppose to use white lint free paper to wipe the dipstick rather then cloth so you don't contaminate the transmission fluid. Now have 127,000 miles on her and have never checked the fluid or had it changed.
I have a Frontier service manual and will see what it says. |
