Howdy --

Nice forum you've got here. Just bought a used '09 Equator 2WD Crew Cab, sidesteps, tow package and bed extender. Love it so far.

Would be interested in any feedback (positive or negative) about hitch racks, cargo covers and the like. Saw a thread on tonneau covers, and it was informative. As far as the racks go, I'm mainly interested in hauling bikes and camping gear (whatever won't fit in the bed).

Also, in doing my research on the Equator, I noticed that there had been a recall relating to certain models of the Garmin nav system -- apparently there is a risk that the batteries may overheat and cause a fire. Sure enough, my nav unit is one of the models listed in the recall notice. I was wondering if anyone had dealt with the recall process and, if so, how much of a pain in the rear it was.

Here's a link about the recall: Recall Alert: 2009-10 Suzuki Equator - PickupTrucks.com News

Thanks!

Welcome aboard CalHorn. Good to see yet another Equator owner joining the group. The Garmin unit I added was not on the recall, so can't say anything about the process.

Thanks.

On the return of the nav unit, I called Garmin (you can either call Suzuki or Garmin to do the return) and they sent me a UPS return shipping label. I've got to run the battery on my nav unit down to zero and then mail the unit to Garmin. They'll send a new unit back to me. The bad part is that I'll be without the nav unit for a few weeks.

I have a Truxedo Truxport roll up tonneau on mine. The bow rails are built into the cover, and roll up with the cover. Plus, the snap closure at the tailgate keeps the cover taut and neat looking.

Got the Garmin nav unit back yesterday. It appears they switched it for another unit. Plugged it in and it seemed to do okay. Fairly painless process as far as recalls go -- was without the unit for about 2 weeks but at least I now have a unit that won't potentially catch on fire (I hope).

Thanks for the feedback on the tonneau cover, ChrisO.

I've driven the truck about 500 miles thus far and like it. There is a slight squeak in the front end -- can barely hear it when the radio's off. Also, just in the past couple of days an annoying rattle has developed somewhere in the dash on the passenger side. I'm hoping it's something easily fixable, but I haven't had time to really investigate at this point.
