Default Dual XDVD8290 Installation

Just thought I would show my double DIN installation of the unit to replace my std radio on my 2009 King Cab.

To those who are thinking about changing out the radio it is VERY simple on this vehicle.

Pop the dashboard tray by putting your fingers in the crack on the engine side.

There you will find one screw. Remove it.

Then place both hands on the plastic frontplate that surrounds the radio and includes the A/C controls. Pull the top hard and it will pop off. Then pull off the bottom.
Either disconnect the A/C controls or move it to the side.

You will then see the 4 screws that hold in the radio. Remove them and the radio is free.

Please note that you will need to buy the Nissan 2007 or later adapto cable along with their new antenna plug adapto.

Just about any double DIN radio will fit. I ended up with the DUAL XDVD8290 for $509 at OnlineCarStereo.com. What I like about it is the built in BT mike. Note in the picture that the GPS antenna fits really nice with a piece of double stick tape in the center.

FYI.

Default Added a Backup Camera

FYI,
Since this unit included the ability to hook up a backup camera so I did.

I purchased one that bolts on the license plate frame. I got the one that has the night vision. It is a Crimestopper SV-5120ir.

Installation was easy with the exception of getting the wire from the camera to the radio. I ended up running it along the left frame and thru the main wiring harness gasket on the firewall.

I tapped into my backup lights to power the camera so that it is only energized when the backup lights are on.

It works fine and although it seems pretty low to the ground, the fisheye lens provides a full view even at night. The only problem I found is when it rains, droplets obscure a decent view.

Default A great install!

You did a great job on the install, but like Equator RMZ4 my dash doesn't look anything like yours. The heat and A/C controls are long buttons and fan speed and temp are round knobs. I'll take a picture and post so everyone can see the difference.

Default Dashboard Photo

This is the 2009 Equator dash that I'm familiar with.

Radio removal is simple. Just follwo gogatesg's instructions, or if you want, go over to Club Frontier. Someone there posted Crutchfield's Master Sheet.

Do you have a KC or CC?

The newer style radio (pictured above) is very much the same. Take a credit card and pop off the top tray. Now you will see THREE screws instead of the one that is mentioned in the original post. Remove all three of those screws and you are all set to just pull the face off. When you do, the radio will still be attached to the truck, and the trim will be in your hand. Remove the radio and you're golden. You may need to unplug the harnesses for the Hazard and passenger airbag light. DO NOT turn the key on without the passenger airbag light connected, or you're going to get the airbag light on the dash and have to go through the reset procedure to turn it off.

If installing an aftermarket stereo, you are going to need a new surround piece that goes around the radio and HVAC controls. I think it was about $15.

EDIT:
First link I found, might be cheaper elsewhere:
